A ground-up build at Lake Tahoe/Martis Camp called for timeless mountain interior design where stone and wood details combine with light and bright finishes for earthy but airy interiors. Throughout the house, textural natural elements contrast with mountain modern details, as with the great room fireplace, whose stone surround and reclaimed-wood-clad chimney lifts the eye to the dramatically angled ceiling. In the main level guest bedroom, a clean-edge steel fireplace is juxtaposed against a twig-framed mirror, driftwood chandelier and walls of wood and stone. A contemporary metal chandelier and corrugated steel in the media room contrast with the rustic charm of red wood cabinets, providing a sense of warmth and comfort even on the chilliest snow days.
Within the airy interiors, there are plenty of those cozy moments so essential to a four-season home: an intimate game-playing nook with built-in banquette, two four-bed bunk rooms with built-in closets and trundles for additional houseguests, a triple-faucet farmhouse sink set within a wood- and-stone vanity. Rustic/glam details include an antler mirror of silver-tone metal, glass pendants, a double-tier chandelier with faux pillar candles, glossy black subway tiles, industrial chic lighting and a custom metal hood. In this Tahoe home we creatively combined several aesthetics to highlight the tried, the true and the new in a fresh take on mountain living.
