We provided interior and architecural design for a modern farmhouse set in the Sierra foothills which had all the charm due its 1880s history. It was built on the stagecoach route during the Gold Rush and is complete with an artesian well in the basement and a chimney flu that ran through all four stories of the building. Structurally compromised, it was more than ready for a refresh.
The main house was jacked up for necessary foundation work then completely gutted and remodeled and slightly enlarged. Two buildings including a guest house encompass seven bedrooms, five bathrooms, two kitchens, an office, media room and expansive chef’s kitchen. Unique interior design details incorporate the brick of the original fireplace and include an upstairs attic space renovated for two bedrooms with fifteen-foot-tall ceilings accessed by a fire-escape ladder.
This project allowed us free rein over the entire six-acre property. We designed and developed the landscape architecture to include two ponds, a bocce court and massive fire pit, two outdoor showers, a hot tub, horse stable, chicken coop, fruit orchard and gardens. An indoor/outdoor fireplace and a screened porch and bar overlooking the water features establish a strong sense of place and highlight the allure of gracious country living.
